Canada’s energy sector employees 7% of the energy’s industry workforce, nearly double the national average of 4%. As the clean energy sector continues to expand, Indigenous peoples will play a key role in helping to address the industry’s expected labour shortages.

This workshop will equip attendees with actionable strategies on how to provide advanced training and educational support to Indigenous peoples to provide meaningful employment and advance economic reconciliation. Topics of discussion will include:

• Providing skilled training, mentorship, and apprenticeship programs for Indigenous youth
• Highlighting success stories from corporations with higher rates of Indigenous employment
• Creating opportunities for Indigenous peoples to create Indigenous-owned energy projects
• Incorporating local Indigenous knowledge in the recruitment and retention process
